Strate sponsors The Economist Intelligence Corporate Network event

Strate sponsors The Economist Intelligence Corporate Network event

Strate is proud to sponsor The Economist Intelligence Corporate Network’s (EICN) upcoming engagement with the theme “SA Inc: The investment decision”.

The event will bring together multinational and local companies from various industries for in-depth discussions on how to continue to drive investment and reinvestment in South Africa. The aim is to learn from success stories and hear from companies that have expanded their investment footprint in the market, in order to understand the opportunities, risks and challenges.

André Nortjé, Strate CEO, will be among the line-up of expert speakers. “This topic is extremely important to Strate and the financial market ecosystem in which we operate,” says André. “To ensure the sustainability of our business and the financial markets, we need to build our capital markets and increase investment flows. The EICN engagement will provide valuable insights and learnings.”

The EICN is a professional networking forum for business leaders, blending the collective intelligence of The Economist Group with the global insight and experience of senior executives.

The EICN engagement takes place in Johannesburg on 27 September 2023.

Strate adopts Reach for a Dream Foundation hospital ward

Strate adopts Reach for a Dream Foundation hospital ward

At Strate, we believe it is important that Strate serves as a good corporate citizen and that we proactively participate in creating sustainable infrastructures that support South Africa’s socio-economic development.

We run a “Do good” campaign where we encourage our employees to raise funds for worthy causes they believe in and Strate matches a percentage of the donations.

Strate’s Chairman Nigel Payne and his brother Adrian Payne took up our “Do Good” challenge, by taking part in the Freedom Challenge, Race across South Africa, under the theme “Ride For A Cause”, both last year and in 2023.

The brothers aimed to raise awareness and funding for the Reach for a Dream Foundation. Strate has huge respect for the work of the Reach for a Dream Foundation in bringing hope and happiness to tens of thousands of children fighting life-threatening illnesses.

The money raised by the brothers, together with Strate’s share, has contributed to the recent revamp of the Reach For A Dream children’s ward, known as a Dream Room, at Baragwanath Academic Hospital. This is the 40th Dream Room built by Reach For A Dream.

“We are delighted to see the money raised by the Payne brothers, and Strate’s contribution, going towards an initiative that will make a significant  difference in so many people’s lives,” said André Nortjé, Strate CEO.

Strate has taken it a step further by adopting the children’s ward. “We will help to maintain the ward, whether it is a fresh coat of paint, new bedding or whatever help Reach for a Dream Foundation needs to keep the ward in good condition,” said André.

Strate employees will volunteer at the ward from time to time, helping where needed. Strate’s “Do good” campaign is designed to involve its employees in its CSI initiatives, as this fits well with its culture of caring.

Strate supports Equity Express Securities Exchange in opening its bond market

Strate is pleased to have supported Equity Express Securities Exchange (EESE) in opening its bond market to multiple participants and operationalising its bond licence.

The operationalisation of the bond licence, issued by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority in March 2023, allows EESE to list bonds and notes, which Strate will clear and settle.

Strate is providing EESE with a suite of security services that include registry, settlement, asset and integration services. All of these are critical to the effective functioning of the security services ecosystem, thereby promoting interoperability, enabling efficiencies, and mitigating systemic risk for EESE.

“As a trusted client of Strate, EESE is delighted to be intelligently innovating in bond trading services and integrating its trading platform directly with Strate’s proven corporate bond market system. We truly hope this collaboration between our organisations yields results for all participants in the corporate bond market,” said Anthony Wilmot, EESE Chief Executive Officer.

“We are thrilled to have successfully onboarded Equity Express Securities Exchange as we continue to deliver on our purpose of serving the South African financial markets,” said Gregory Naicker, Strate Head of CSD Services.
