Strate Academy is committed to educating and upgrading the standing of individuals working in the securities industry, by constantly keeping them up-to-date with legislative, market best practices and developments. It is this commitment that has led to the continuous development of seminars and the introduction of Strate’s customised training programmes.
Strate’s Academy team aims to provide accurate, up-to-date and continuous training on Strate-specific functionality, procedures and legislation and it always encourages its market to maintain a high level of theoretical Central Securities Depository (CSD) knowledge specific to Strate.
Part of Strate’s responsibility as a self-regulating entity is to provide training and accreditation for Strate Compliance Officers and Alternate Compliance Officers. Each CSD Participant is required to have a certified Compliance Officer as well as an Alternate Compliance Officer in their organisation.
Strate Academy, in partnership with the South African Institute of Financial Markets (SAIFM), offers on-line examinations through the use of SAIFM examination facilities for individuals interested in becoming accredited as Strate Compliance Officers in the equities, bonds and/or the money market environment.
Strate Academy also offers customised training programmes designed according to each client’s specific requirements.
Strate Academy is an Approved Training Provider by the Finance and Accounting Services Sector Education and Training (FASSET), the Sector Education and Training Authority for Finance, Accounting, Management Consulting and other Financial Services. Its accreditation number is 585/01233/10.
The approval status means that Strate Academy meets all of the Education Training and Quality Assurance requirements for accreditation, but offers non-credit bearing programmes. Therefore, no credits will be recorded on the National Learners’ Record Database for learners who complete the Strate Modules.
Benefits of Being Accredited with FASSET
The main benefit of being accredited by FASSET is quality assurance for our clients. FASSET constantly monitors the delivery of quality assurance with respect to the courses for which providers have been accredited.
Also, companies that increase their capacity by training or assessing their staff through a SETA-accredited provider are entitled to a refund on a percentage of their skills levy, as well as to grants set out in the Skills Development Act.
Strate Special Purpose Reserve Fund
A Special Purpose Reserve Fund was set up by the Strate Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee to house the funds that are generated from penalties, which are incurred by CSD Participants. The purpose of the fund is to give back to the financial market in the form of the development and upliftment of skills.
In line with this mandate, all market players who send delegates through any Strate training will be subsidised 50% of the total cost of that training. Similarly, if any market participant sends delegates through any Strate exams, they will also be subsidised 50% of that exam cost.
Strate currently produces three handbooks covering the equities, bonds and money markets environments.
The purpose of holding seminars is to:
• Give candidates the opportunity to gain an understanding of a specific Strate topic in an
interactive environment as opposed to the self-study approach;
• Prepare candidates who have registered for the Strate examinations; and
• Provide candidates, who have previously passed an examination module, with an opportunity to participate in a refresher course on one or more of the individual components within a study module.
The seminars are held at Strate’s offices in Illovo, Sandton, or at a venue of the client’s choice.
